Press Release - July 2008
We are now at the height of the motoring season, and according to Bayford Thrust, they now have leaded 4-star heading for the UK, so presumably deliveries will be able to restart soon. However the downside of this is that the cost has rocketed to £1.95 per litre plus VAT for deliveries of under 5000 litres. That's over £2.23 per litre before the garage has added a penny profit; a cost that will likely prove unacceptable for most of Britain's classic car enthusiasts.
Whilst at first this may seem a potential disaster for the many thousands of motorists who rely on leaded fuel, classic car enthusiasts and race entrants should take comfort in the fact that TetraBOOST is already catering for the additional demand - and at less than 14p per treated litre over unleaded pump prices. Thus TetraBOOST now becomes our only source of economically-priced tetraethyl lead, essential for the many collectors cars and racing cars used in the UK and Europe on a regular basis. Launched in 2000 it has been FBHVC-approved and is the only additive available that makes proper leaded fuel from unleaded pump petrol.
Suitable for all road and track applications, TetraBOOST, when added to unleaded petrol at the recommended rate, provides the same amount of lead as conventional BS4040 pump fuel and will, therefore, give the same level of engine protection and performance that leaded fuel has always offered. For those that do not as yet know TetraBOOST's product, this news will be particularly welcome, especially bearing in mind the current huge cost and geographical difficulty in finding leaded supplies.
TetraBOOST mixes provide all the benefits of BS4040 leaded pump fuel along with a 2-point octane boost at its base dose, at a considerably lower cost than previous conventional pump-sourced supplies. Costing as little as 11.7p per treated litre at the bulk garage rate, it is, of course, still available by the single box to motorists by mail order, and in bulk for garages to splash-blend on site. Many of the garages previously offering Bayford Thrust fuel are now offering TetraBOOST-backed leaded pump fuel and it seems that TetraBOOST's garage network is expanding fast. The low cost and convenience of TetraBOOST leaded concentrate ensures that garages, no matter how distant, can continue to offer fresh leaded pump fuel to their customers. In addition, the fact that TetraBOOST is widely available as a pump fuel has enabled TetraBOOST to comply with MSA regulations on leaded fuel.
TetraBOOST is supplied direct to the customer by mail order. Costing £120 per box including delivery, a box gives around 4000 miles of leaded motoring, assuming 20mpg. That is an individual box price of around 14p per treated litre for BS4040 leaded fuel - a relative bargain at today's inflated fuel prices and no more expensive than a couple of the lead substitutes
